As you may have heard, I have begun work on a new documentary film project about the history of disc golf – around the world.

My first documentary film, “Flatball, A history of ultimate”(frisbee) spent 18 months on Netflix – available to over 50 million households in North America – and can now be seen on Amazon Prime! That type of exposure outside the already established disc community was the goal going in and in fact far exceeded my humble expectations.

Like Ultimate, Disc Golf is a fun, healthy, outdoor activity with a thriving community experiencing rapid growth, which in turn now supports an ever increasing number of disc, basket and apparel manufacturers and media companies – and allows a growing number of players the financial means to “quit their day jobs” and become sponsored touring professional athletes. It’s the stuff dreams are made of. Millions now play and highlights are now appearing on ESPN’s top ten plays of the week! But how did it happen? What were the circumstances? and who were the pioneers who helped mold this fledging game into a worldwide industry? It’s a great story … and one which I would be proud to tell.

Shooting began last November up in Orangevale CA where 2018 World Champion Gregg Barsby was thrown a triumphant home coming party and given the keys to the city by the town’s Mayor. Next the production backed up to the sport’s roots with interviews and consultations with the legendary Dan “Stork” Roddick (PDGA #3) and Tom Kennedy (TK), winner of the storied 1979 $50,000 Wham-O tournament (playing with only one disc!). We caught up with Sarah Hokum at Arizona’s Memorial Championship to discuss the current state of affairs for women in the sport as well as her ace at last years San Francisco Open which landed her a spot on ESPN’s Top Ten. We talked with Steven Dodge in Arizona as well – about a turning point that occurred around 2015 with the introduction of both the Disc Golf Pro Tour and the Disc Golf World Tour and the explosion of course installations taking place in Europe – notably Finland. I got a great interview with 20 year old phenom Eagle McMahan sitting down with Stork on camera, and I came across a wonderful heart warming story I plan to develop with the Deaf Disc Golf Association. Germany’s Simon Lizzotte has agreed to an interview, so has Paul McBeth, Juliana Korver, course designer John Houck, Innova’s Dave Dunipace, Paige Pearce, Elaine King, Jessica Weese, Crazy John Brooks, Charlie Meade from the World Flying Disc Association, Peter Lundmark from Sweden, Joe Chargualaf from the PDGA etc. etc… And I am just getting started!

If you can afford to, please consider supporting my disc golf documentary film efforts -anywhere from a hundred or so dollars to a few thousand would go a long way toward helping us achieve our goals. Besides my gratitude I can offer you a few perks for your hard earned money. 1. When it’s all over, you’ll get a digital download of the film, with your name listed in the credits. 2. I’ll send you a cool hi-res digital copy of the visual timeline of the history of the sport that I will use in the film (Get it printed and own a valuable piece of branded memorabilia). 3. You’ll have my ear and I’ll have you as a story resource to possibly contribute via an interview or as a photo/archival contributor – and you’ll be on the short list of invitees to private screenings and other sponsorship/partnership opportunities.

Thanks very much for your consideration in this history in the making! We are part of a great family/community! so please forward this to anyone who you think might also be a good fit. This is our legacy!
